#DYK that socks are the most needed items at this time of year?

Although all clothing donations are welcomed at local shelters and charities, it seems that there is still a lack of sock donations. Oftentimes, people donate items they no longer want or need, so socks are forgotten. Hands and feet are where we lose the most of our body heat, making sock and gloves imperative to fighting the cold weather.

Starbucks at London Station (10362 King George Highway) is currently holding a sock drive. The next time you purchase your morning brew, consider donating a pair of socks for someone in need this holiday season.

#DYK your young ones can visit Santa, and there’s crafting for teens, all at City Centre Library?

#DYK your young ones can visit Santa, and there’s crafting for teens, all at City Centre Library?

This coming Thursday, December 17th, bring your children into the library for fun, holiday themed activities.

From 1:30-2:30 PM, Christmas Cheer will take place in  Room 120 at City Centre Library. For those 0-5 years old, there will be holiday story time, songs, and a visit from Santa.

Later from 4-5:30 PM in the Teen Lounge, teens can come by for Winter Crafternoon. They will be making holiday cards, felt animals, finger puppets, bows, handwarmers, and decorating cookies.

While at the library, don’t forget to grab a new book for reading over the holidays. A good book, warm fire, and hot chocolate sounds like the perfect way to spend a winter afternoon to me!

#DYK that as the temperature drops, so can your energy bill?

#DYK that as the temperature drops, so can your energy bill?

There are many steps you can take this winter to conserve energy in both your home and business. You could save yourself some money, and you’re definitely helping the environment!

  1. Open blinds to warm rooms from direct sunlight
  2. Encourage workers to wear sweaters & lower the thermostat
  3. Keep exterior doors closed as much as possible
  4. Reverse the setting on ceiling fans to push the risen warm air down below
  5. Keep a full fridge! A full refrigerator will stay cold longer

There are many long-term adjustments you can make to save money all year long, like only using energy star appliances, as well as changing all light bulbs to LED.
